MAKE YOUR PLANS TO ATTEND TODAY…..

2005 Annual Training
Daytona Beach, Florida
July 17-20

The next FACCI Conference will be July 17-20, 2005 It will be held at the Best Western La Playa Resort in Daytona Beach (2500 N Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach).

We will again have our first training session on Sunday (4-8) at the hotel. We will remain at the hotel for all of the sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The 2005 schedule is available here.

Wireless devices, such as PDAs and Cell Phones, run the risk of having evidence contaminated due to signals received after seizure and most likely beyond the statutes of a search warrant. Due to the need to keep the devices powered on in order to preserve data and protect encryption from being enabled, signal blocking measures should be employed from seizure to acquisition. Paraben Corporation, providers of such software as "Cell Seizure", "Chat Examiner", "Decryption Collection", "Email Examiner", and "PDA Seizure", will present their solutions for these ever increasing challenges.

In "Tales from the Dark Side", we will discuss computer evidence from the defense attorney's perspective; you will gain an insight into their tactics and strageties. Included in this session will be tips on testifying such as avoiding the defense attorney mischaracterizing your testimony.

One of the most common defenses to computer crimes is SODDI (Some Other Dude Did It). We will take a look at some of the steps that can be taken to derail this defense tactic.

Everyday brings a new challenge for the computer forensic examiner. Sometimes our standard tools work for this new challenge, sometimes they don't. The forensic tool forum will be an opportunity for discussion of everyone's favorite tools, not just the major forensics suites, but tools for unique situations. For example, have you ever tried to burn a CD with really long paths and filenames, only to be told by your software that the filenames will have to be truncated?

One of our popular sessions, an open forum for discussing solutions to difficult investigations will return this year. Avoid reinventing the wheel by leveraging the experiences of your fellow computer crime investigators. If you've found an innovative approach to a computer crime issue, come prepared to share it. If you've got a vexing case, this is the place to brainstorm with other experienced investigators.
